ABSTRACT

From a management perspective, knowing what members of a system need can lead to non-directive and very effective management decisions as one need can be satisfied in many ways. Therefore, if the shared needs in a social system are explicitly known and prioritized, an organization can focus at satisfying needs and thus, dramatically increase the range of potential satisfiers. Many streams of research like A. Maslow’s hierarchy of need proposed approaches to prioritize needs, but they lack applicability for organizational learning purposes and strategic decision making. Bewextra results in a catalogue of explicated and validated catalogue of needs that are shared between members of an organization. The external view of a system considers the expertise of outsiders who are acquainted with the organization and who gained significant knowledge about the system but are themselves not members like experts, customers or facilitators.
