ABSTRACT
This chapter presents urban contact dialects in the Netherlands, drawing on results from different research projects. In the polycentric Dutch urban linguistic landscape, different ethnic groups live together but it also has a strong Self/Other division. We then discuss two specific research projects: the Roots study and the Gouda study, presenting both structural and sociolinguistic findings. Finally, we discuss the broader political and social context and suggest new lines of research.
