ABSTRACT

Probably the main source of information on micro-technology and special education has been the Special Education Microelectronic Resources Centres. At present most colleges have done little more than begin to make their students aware of the educational possibilities of micro-technology. Computer technology is here to stay both in our lives and in our schools and technology has enormous implications for the education of children with special needs. The 'revelatory' role of the computer is an attractive alternative to its use as an instructor. Clearly if a school has developed its curriculum after much careful consideration it would be reasonable for the computer work to adopt a broadly similar style and serve similar objectives. It would, for instance, be hard to justify using the computer in an entirely instructional role when the school curriculum is based on discovery learning.
