ABSTRACT
This chapter analyzes the current demand for climate-adaptive zoning through the lens of past attempts to zone for environmental improvement. It reflects on the circumstances under which zoning has been successful in achieving environmental goals and those under which it has failed to deliver substantial environmental benefits. It draws lessons for planners wishing to use zoning to address the pressing need for climate adaptation.
