ABSTRACT
Urbanism and production are inextricably linked. One could write a nearly comprehensive history of the city, from the Industrial Revolution to today, simply by tracing the changing role of industry in the city: from engine of growth to source of political and social upheaval; from concentration of economic power to symbol of urban disinvestment.
