ABSTRACT
The Nagas are the first in independent India to pioneer an ethnic resistance movement that has questioned the conventional understanding of the development of nationalities in India. The ethno-national movement of the Nagas poses a challenge to the practice and possibilities of civic nationalism in multi-ethnic and multi-national states.
