ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the story of how students have moved from special classes and remedial teaching. Special needs for people, therefore, are not an indication of innate disabilities in the child, but of the need for the teachers to modify their teaching. Cirencester Deer Park School has an interesting history established on a foundation of integration and flexibility in its search to provide educational excellence for the community it serves. The school has always believed in its potential and has striven to meet change and search for excellence in a positive equitable manner through natural development. By 1972 it was believed that some students were 'remedial' and needed specialist teaching and a different curriculum to meet their needs and so as not to hamper the development of the 'average' and 'high flying' pupil. The single Learning Skills Centre has been replaced by a range of learning centres performing similar functions.
