ABSTRACT

In identifying characteristics of the novice stage and the advanced beginner, L. Enow and A. Goodwyn make it easier to pick out the characteristics which mentors might be seeking to embed in the advanced beginner. As the school year progresses English Teachers will be seeing their mentee meeting parents to enable them to see how their children are progressing. In many of the mentoring activities used to address the task of successfully inducting an newly qualified teacher (NQT) into the profession English Teachers will have been balancing the need to consolidate learning and ensure that the experience is sustainable to meet the grading of at least satisfactory. English Teachers might also want to keep an overview of the pattern of observations from which the NQT is benefiting when they observe a lesson. Most teachers are glad to help and will often donate some more time to discuss any issues arising from the lesson.
