ABSTRACT

The conclusion summarises the main points raised within the book, including the impact of gambling upon individuals, families and wider society, the shortfalls of “player protection” measures and the current evolution of a public health approach towards harm reduction. Recent initiatives are then highlighted, with regard to their effectiveness and their inclusion within this framework. Finally, the book ends with a consideration of the next steps to further this approach, including the need for transparent and independent research and ongoing monitoring, and the importance of well-adapted and responsive policy.
