ABSTRACT

In Finland there is a tradition of providing public or subsidized catering services covering different age groups. The roots of work site catering are in the forest industry at the end of the 19th century. Since then Finland has developed from an agrarian to an industrialized society where eating at canteens during working hours is available for two thirds of employees. Today work site eating is a keystone in Finnish nutrition policy and a core element in the upholding of old habits and introducing new aspects to Finnish food culture.
