ABSTRACT

This conversation with LaToya Devezin and Barbara Makuati-Afitu investigates their respective internal and external strategies for archiving, enriching, and opening up cultural artefacts and stories. Topics include inclusion and access, intersectionality, colonisation, protocols and practices for centering First Nations and historically marginalised stories in museums and archives, community engagement and co-creation. It was recorded on June 21, 2018. At the time, LaToya Devezin was an Archivist for National Archives in Atlanta, U.S. and Barbara Makuati-Afitu was a Community Engagement Navigator at the Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum in Auckland, New Zealand.
