ABSTRACT

This conversation brings together Lara Day and David Smith, staff from two relatively young multilingual and multi-modal organisations situated in Hong Kong to discuss the nuances of institutional practice in their specific circumstances. M+ is a new museum for visual culture in Hong Kong opening its doors in 2020 with a focus on “visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture” (M+ 2018) and the Asia Art Archive (AAA), situated in Hong Kong, is a self-described “catalyst for new ideas” through the “collection, creation, and sharing of knowledge around recent art in Asia” (Asia Art Archive 2017). Topics covered include digital strategy, experimentation and risk, open access to digital collections and colonialisation. This conversation was recorded on February 14, 2018. At the time, Lara Day was Manager, Digital Programme, M+, Hong Kong and David Smith was Head of Collections and Digital Experience, Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong.
