ABSTRACT

A spontaneous reconnection between different academically defined fields of knowledge is taking place, and science centres and museums are more or less consciously shaped by the changing ecosystem. Adopting the definition used by the curators of the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2019, the museum is ‘a kind of organism living by its own laws and capable of creative endeavours beyond the ability of any of its component parts – objects, people, or buildings.’ Humans seem to be naturally attracted to beauty and harmony and visitors entering a science museum are no doubt immediately attracted by “beautiful” and “strange” displays and exhibits. Reflection chapters were written by curators, museum directors, artists, and educators. Their experiences and points of views reflect the plurality of perspectives surrounding the topic of art in science engagement intuitions. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
