ABSTRACT

This chapter describes great difference between Pop Art and Black Art. While the Pop artists tend to objectify their images, stripping them of their original associations, the Black Art Movement artists are deeply committed to the images and forms in their work. Black art must use its own color black to create its own light since that color is the most immediate black truth. General Black art must not depend on lights or light contrast in order to express its blackness, either in principle or fact. In addition artist has changed the colors of the American flag from red, white, and blue to the Black Nationalist colors of red, black, and green, co-opting the symbolism to accommodate the aspirations of black nationhood. The American Dream portrays a lone woman who sits admiring her rather large diamond ring. The theme of the American Dream certainly fueled the polemics of the decade.
