ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with statements of the form ‘M does A at t,’ wherein M designates a specific person, A a specific action and t a specific time. It argues that in case one speaks truly in uttering a particular R-statement at a particular time, then one also speaks truly in uttering the same R-statement at any other time. If, for example, one were to speak truly in saying that Stilpo is running at noon on a given Tuesday, one would also speak truly if one said the same thing again a week later, or at any other time. There are some statements, to be sure, like ‘Stilpo is running,’ which are not, as they stand, true every time they are uttered, since it is not always the case that Stilpo is running. But that is not an R-statement.
