ABSTRACT
In his essay "Racism and Sexism," Richard A. Wasserstrom distinguishes three separate domains for social analysis: the domain of social reality, the domain of social ideals, and the domain of optimal means for implementing those social ideals given a particular social reality. Gender freedom, gender justice, and gender equality are inconsistent with any form of sexism. Sexism is conceptually and pragmatically dependent upon a complex structure of personal intentions, theories of personality, sets of roles, and differential gender-based assignments of power. Insofar as a society uses gender as a principle of social organization, it must be, as a minimal logical requirement, a gender-dichotomized society. Surely the top contenders- a kind of list of moral Oscar nominees- must include the following: social justice, equality, liberty, security, happiness and the avoidance of harm, equality of opportunity, autonomy, and privacy.
