ABSTRACT

This chapter is constructed and its analysis structured around Raymond Williams’s metaphor of the wall. The chapter draws attention to this metaphor because of who the author is: a Music Education PhD student in Latin America studying different views on the development of institutional leadership in music from the North axis. The chapter then looks at distinctions between leadership enactment and its challenges when observed or analysed from a north/south distinction. Lastly, the chapter looks at leadership from the frame and efforts to develop mutual responsibility and engagement: responsibility that searches for the effective democratisation of the curriculum as a space of action and engagement between institutional leadership as collective instance and individual assumption.
