ABSTRACT

Joan Normington is headteacher of a school attached to a Social Services Assessment Centre which he shall call the Centre. Various school problems were anticipated, contingency plans were made to cover these and Shelagh returned to school. When a child is ready to go out to ordinary school our liaison teacher is usually, but not always, involved. Many of the residents attend the school at the Centre, as do a small number of day pupils. He make the initial approach to the headteacher, particularly if it is a change of school, and arrange for a teacher to go to the school to make plans with their staff if they so wish. He was examining seven 'instances in action'. His goal was to attempt some generalisation across the practices adopted to facilitate reentry so that the research had a practical outcome. He extracted information regarding the children's home circumstances from the documents in order to try to predict likely problems.
