ABSTRACT
Women’s gray hair in online discussions by Lia Friesem. An exploration of the attitudes towards gray hair, this chapter presents an analysis of public discourse surrounding gray hair, using user-generated content collected from social media platforms. It foregrounds relationships between the social symbolism and dominant perceptions of gray hair and the way it is managed in mid and later life. It underlines a strong connection between gray hair and self-esteem and highlights how central it is to the daily experience of mid-life women.
