ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on survey data seeking to gauge the opinions of Americans on advances in robotics and artificial intelligence. The PEW survey asked the American public about enthusiasm in relation to the development of robot caregivers; driverless vehicles; job hiring algorithms; and a future where robots and computers can do human jobs. PEW Research Center created the following scenario to gauge whether new developments in robotics and computers are changing the nature of work in the US society: New developments in robotics and computing are changing the nature of many jobs. Publics views was sought on government or individual responsibility in providing for displaced workers and justification of robotisation by businesses. The feeling that one’s own profession will be mostly done by robots and computers in the future has a positive correlation with expectation of business automation, robot deliveries, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and others.
