ABSTRACT

The year 2014, just prior to and immediately after the elections, was marked by cries of ‘love jihad’ and ghar wapsi, particularly in north India, more specifically Uttar Pradesh, propagated by Hindutva forces. This chapter examines the larger politics of these aggressive mythical campaigns, highlighting how both these drives were charged with a moral and communal fervour, adopting an unrestrained anti-Christianity and anti-Islamic polemic.
