ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter summarizes the main thesis of the book - Africa has been subjected to series of exploitation during most of the continent’s modern history. This unfortunate exposure to persistent exploitation has made poverty, diseases, and strife recurring narratives of the continent. Despite extricating itself from the forces of Atlantic slave trade and European colonialism, Africa’s social and economic development remains constrained by the shackles of postcolonial misrule. Several centuries of institutionalized exploitation and forced migration through slavery, created equally difficult conditions for the African Diaspora. While changes are gradually taking place, African states have a long way to go in order to create social stability, generate sustained growth and embark on the structural transformation that would eventually re-write the depressing narrative of a continent consistently traumatized by forces of exploitation and suppression.
