ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a thought-provoking discussion of the relationship between the behavioral and social sciences and the American criminal justice system. It identifies various ways in which the current legal system is resistant to the influence of the social and behavioral sciences, but suggests that in the future these sciences have the potential to lead to improvements in the way society deals with criminal behavior.
