ABSTRACT

While the idea that values may influence science is not new, questions about the role of values in science arose in feminist scholarship with a particular set of concerns and a unique set of aims. The goal of this chapter is to elucidate why feminist philosophers of science have focused on the role and nature of values in science, to provide an overview of the ways that feminists have shown values to operate in science, and to distinguish two feminist approaches to thinking about which values or whose values might be endorsed by scientists or scientific communities.
