ABSTRACT

Feminist engagements with philosophy of biology share features with philosophy of science and philosophy of biology more broadly, although they differ in important ways. Topics of interest for philosophy of science include the nature and strength of the evidence that supports scientific hypotheses and theories, scientific reasoning and methods, the nature of scientific explanations and theories, and the role of cognitive (i.e. epistemic) values in scientific practice. Philosophers of biology have framed these issues in relation to one or more biological sciences specifically. Feminist engagements with philosophy of biology focus on how questions of gender and biology are consequential for these issues.
