ABSTRACT

An attacking animal will attempt to immobilize its subject by striking the limbs. Once the subject has been ‘‘brought down,’’ it will attack any body part to ultimately strike the throat, neck, or skull. If the attack persists, death will ultimately result from asphyxiation, exsanguination, broken neck, or fractured skull or its complications. Dog bites will vary in size and pattern of injury depending on the animal and the surface bitten. The appearance will be totally different on a skull from on the arm, leg (Fig. 1), back, or neck.
