ABSTRACT

Due to the environment and participants involved, trauma-aware considerations are critical when creating a sexual harassment-focused drama in education (DiE) program for adults. This chapter elucidates the author’s implementation of a trauma-informed lens in the generation and production of a series of Gender Inclusive Culture faculty development workshops at the University of Virginia. The author especially considers some often-overlooked details of producing such a DiE program, including the performance space, communication with participants, and rehearsal processes, through the lens of Roger Fallot and Maxine Harris’s trauma-informed planning protocol. For practitioners in higher education and faculty development, and for any DiE facilitators working with adult learners, this chapter expands upon small ways to design an equitable, trauma-informed, and engaging DiE experience.
