ABSTRACT

This personal reflection draws on my work as a primary school teacher and active practitioner of drama education in Ireland to explore the potential of drama in education for both educator and students amongst significant challenges in the teaching profession today. Situated within a neoliberal educational context, I focus on how my in-class practice and research in recent years has allowed both me and my students to open alternative spaces where accepted norms can be deconstructed and reimagined. This reflection seeks to highlight the importance of ‘on-the-ground’ drama educators not only in challenging our students to see beyond what is possible but also in reminding ourselves as educators of what is possible to challenge in the current educational climate.
