In the introduction to this volume, the editors argue the need for renewed reflection on ethics and Christian musical activity in response to recent socio-cultural and scholarly developments. In particular, they argue that contemporary cosmopolitan dynamics brings new ethical priorities to the fore. The introduction traces recent developments in relation to music and ethics more generally before focusing in on a recent scholarship in relation to Christianity, in particular. This is followed by an introduction to the four main sections within the book: the body and beyond; fulfilling responsibilities and negotiating values; identity and encounter; and valuing the self.
