ABSTRACT

This chapter is an analysis and discussion of how the affordances and the audio-visual representation of the radio(s) in music streaming services relate to the traditional broadcasted flow of radio. The chapter is based on the case of radio in the Spotify streaming service. It will explore a range of questions in order to analyse the remediation of radio in streaming. How does radio, remediated for streaming, relate to what Sr. Director of Design at Adobe, Khoi Vinh (2019) calls a visual monoculture? How does an auditory monoculture that serves more of what we have just listened to relate to the recent test of music+talk in the Spotify software?
