ABSTRACT

Several studies on clerical sexual abuse of minors have revealed that a vast majority of abuse victims are pubescent or postpubescent boys. How is this to be explained? This paper will discuss two explanatory approaches that have been suggested (more opportunity, homophobia in combination with sexual immaturity, etc.). The apparently limited scope of these explanatory approaches may indicate that other factors, some of which are directly or indirectly related to the phenomenon of clerical homosexuality, should be given greater consideration.
