ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Spectra are important sources of information about atoms and molecules. This paper surveys the various types of spectra and the nature of what each reveals about atomic or molecular structures or properties. The instrumentation employed is identified. A brief history of the development of spectroscopy is included as well as a bibliography of sources for additional reading on the topic.

The second part of this paper is an annotated bibliography of published sources for the major types of spectra. Scope and coverage of each source is noted as well as details on the nature of access to the spectral data.
