ABSTRACT

Biochemistry, the study of chemical processes in living things, has developed dramatically, within not much more than the past forty years, as the introduction of sophisticated analytical and computational tools has allowed the research emphasis to move from description and separation of chemical components of the cell to the study of changes occurring within the cell (Navia, 1975). At the same time, the importance of the discipline has increased enormously, with discoveries impacting on medicine and the secrets of the origin of life (Stryer, 1975).
