ABSTRACT

Physical activity (PA) provides several benefits to children with visual impairments (VIs) and their families. However, research exploring the experiences and perceptions of families of children with VI regarding PA is scarce. In this chapter, we provide evidence and summarize existing research exploring parental insights toward PA. We discuss research exploring the perspective of parents of children with visual impairment regarding physical activity. Moreover, intervention programs aimed at improving the physical activity levels of children by incorporating parents’ participation and teaching parents a variety of strategies to engage in physical activity with their children are reflected. In a later section, future directions and practical implications of this area of inquiry are presented.
