ABSTRACT

This chapter examines academic research publications on sport and environmental tools, certification programs, and communication tools for reporting. Examples of tools and programs that are currently available were outlined, such as the life cycle assessment, triple bottom line (TBL), triple top line (TTL), balanced scorecard, ecological footprint, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO). There were, however, only 10 manuscripts that focused on the employment of such environmental tools or programs in sport. The chapter provides a synopsis of each of these manuscripts and, in particular, highlights the gaps in the literature. Research that further elucidates understandings relating to sport and these topics is sorely needed. Importantly, research found outside the realm of sport is offered and positioned as being useful to frame future sport research. The chapter aims to entice readers fill in the gaps.
