ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an unprecedented resource relating to academic journal research published on environmental sustainability and major sport events. An inventory of 47 sport research manuscripts is summarized into seven themes and delineated based on the research topic, method, setting, sport sector, theoretical foundation, conclusions, and literature gaps. A discussion provides insights regarding the research conclusions and understandings for each topic. Importantly, the identification of the literature gaps is followed by recommendations on how to advance sport event and environmental research. The intent is to encourage readers to develop research that fills in the gaps, and in so doing, expands scholarship that advances the body of knowledge in this area.
