ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on outlining the academic peer-reviewed research journal manuscripts on outdoor summer sport and the impacts of the complex issue of climate change. Unlike the topic of winter sport, which had a robust body of literature on climate change, only nine manuscripts specifically focused on the topic of summer sport and climate change. This number illustrated the paucity of research on the topic and the size and diversity of the gaps for future research to fill. Additional research on the topic was strongly promoted. Suggestions for future research topics are offered and range from understanding local climatic impacts on sport to understanding how to adapt sports infrastructure for such impacts. Given the ongoing challenges of climate change, and the importance of the summer season to the wider landscape of sport, further research in this area is promoted as critical and appropriate.
