ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on 11 academic journal publications on sport and environmental policy. To begin, the concept of environmental policy is outlined and literature that discusses the inclusion of such policy within sport is delineated. Next, the limited body of research focused on an array of policy topics; for example, the protection of the environment through sports, policies for building sport facilities and hosting major sport events, and specific issues such as the toxicity of gun shots at competitions. This chapter promotes that the current research needs to be augmented to fully understand how sport can/should introduce and enhance sport environmental policy worldwide. To this end, research by academics and practitioners is necessary to gain insights on significant sport policy measures. Research topic suggestions are provided.
