ABSTRACT

Heureka, Vantaa, Finland, is a purpose-built futuristic science centre, which opened in 1989. It belongs to the second wave of science centres, transforming the traditional science-museum-concept into a diverse hands-on science experience through the combined forces of science, industry, trade unions, and educationalists. Heureka was not just displaying technical innovations. It placed people’s physical, mental, social and cultural interests in the spotlight. That is why sections on language and philosophy were part of the presentations. Communication methods were used that addressed the intellect, feelings, and senses.
