ABSTRACT

The Mémorial ACTe, Caribbean Centre of Expressions and Memory of the Slave Trade and Slavery in Guadeloupe is a vibrant, living commemoration of the resilience of human beings. With emotional grace and intellectual courage, boldly and unflinchingly, the MACTe deals with the contentious and muted, historic and current repercussions of the slave trade and slavery, and provides a multitude of roadmaps to the fraught mazes of responsibility, accountability and de-colonisation. The MACTe has the scale and expertise to become a pivot point for museums across Europe and across the globe in unearthing and addressing these issues in research and communication.
