ABSTRACT

An evaluative summary report on any event like this workshop is generally presented in relation to the expectations of the reporter. Happiness being a complex psycho-emotional state dependent on a large number of variables, the designer can, at the most, regard physical environment as one of the variables which could become the limiting factor, not the determining factor of happiness. In fact, both the researchers were trying to find the degree to which the students found their physical environment satisfactory for performing the activities they wished to perform in the physical environment. On the plus side it was significant that the two speakers and other workshop participants shared the strong conviction that planning of environment could not be left any longer to personal insights and hunches. Rather, the planning process should be based on empirical research dealing with social, psychological and cultural dimensions of the physical environment.
