ABSTRACT

The Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) education program in China is oriented to enhance the application of tourism knowledge in a practical sense. It aims to cultivate compound management talents with social responsibility and professionalism with international vision and strategic thinking, and thereby competent for the practical work in modern tourism industry. By the end of 2019, there were 104 MTA education and training units in China. The number of students enrolled has increased steadily from 319 in 2011 to 716 as of 2016. This chapter introduces the inaugural background, development routes, and enrolment size of the MTA program in China. The presentation of the chapter will revolve around the following four aspects of MTA education: operational modes, curriculum structure, assessment, and problems and issues.
