ABSTRACT
This chapter describes a study abroad program to South Africa for elementary teacher candidates enrolled at a large, research university in the Southeast region of the United States. Using the lens of the Global Citizenship 1-2-3 framework, we found that a teacher-focused study abroad program helped to develop global citizen educators who were culturally aware and responsive, reflective in comparative and international ways, and ready to take action for social justice.
