ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the role of records managers and archivists in open government, the role and quality of policies and standards for recordkeeping and digital preservation, and the impact of the legal framework for cloud computing on electronic recordkeeping and digital preservation systems. It discusses topics of information governance and interoperability of governmental e-services within and between the European Union member states, as well as the benefits of inter-organisational collaboration on e-government. The book then investigates the topics of open data, privacy, and public trust in online, openly accessible records. It also examines the usability of electronic records management systems by the application of heuristic evaluation methods. The book focuses on digital records’ documentary form and explores topics at the intersection of digital preservation and open access.
