ABSTRACT

Modern digital reality needs a new generation of experts proficient in management of digital records, often entrusted to the cloud. It is argued that university educational programmes should be updated in accordance with the demands of the information society built on trust. The chapter analyzes the theory and practice of the education of records managers and archivists in Russia, with a focus on the specifics of educational programmes for each of the two educational directions: document science and records management, and archival science and archives management. The authors show the advantages and drawbacks of the Bologna system introduced into Russian educational practice. The educational levels of the Bologna system are compared with the traditional Russian educational system. The chapter includes a list of academic courses common for both educational directions, as well as specifics for each of them in Russia and several other countries. The analysis also covers lifelong education realized as short term retraining courses in leading research centres educating qualified experts for work in the open digital environment.
