ABSTRACT

Diane Glancy (b.1941) has been one of the most prolific and influential writers and theorists in the field of Native American drama. First published in 1999, her essay “Further (Farther): Creating Dialogue to Talk About Native American Plays” is among the earliest systematic attempts at theorizing Indigenous drama in North America. This essay explores Glancy's signature poetic, highly densified style of language; it further considers the various processes of border crossing involved in Indigenous theatre production and highlights the necessity of “invent[ing] Native terms” to describe the genre.
