ABSTRACT

Tourism is a growing industry in Bangladesh. With the notable progress of Bangladesh’s economy, international tourism has developed rapidly and domestic tourism achieved similar growth. It was reported that international tourism receipt in 2017 was US$344 million, with an annual growth rate of 10.91% from 1995. The value has grown almost ten times since 1995. International tourism turned out to be a new growth point in many areas of Bangladesh. Though some qualitative analyses have been done in this context, there is no statistical or econometric analysis on the economic contribution of tourism in Bangladesh. In this context, this study is an attempt by the researchers to know about the policies for tourism sector development in Bangladesh, to examine the impact of capital investment on tourism in Bangladesh and to find out limitations and suggest policy implications for the development of the tourism sector. This chapter uses both qualitative and quantitative methods. Policies, limitations and policy recommendations are analysed by qualitative methods and the impact of capital investment on tourism is determined by quantitative analysis. Without maintaining proper strategies in the sector, tourism may lag behind in making its potential contribution in the national economy.
