ABSTRACT
Air transport is dominant in the tourism industry. Recent developments in technology in air transport provide immense opportunities for value creation in the tourism sector. Along with the evolution of technology in air transport and tourism, technology also relates to the issue of safety and security in air transportation globally. It is undeniable that the tourism sector in many countries has been intensely shaped by the development of air transport developments. The evolution of aircraft including the aspect of technology, safety and security has always been an imperative condition for travel and tourism among the tourist. The lightning speed of technology fruition is not only enhanced workforce productivity and operational efficiency, but also improved connectivity among all parties in the industry such as the airline, airport, travel agents and many more. This study aims to investigate the role of technology in supporting air transport and tourism industry in Bangladesh. The aim of this chapter is twofold to discuss the importance of technology in the Bangladesh air transport industry, and secondly to discuss how technology could improve tourism activity in Bangladesh. This study employs the abductive approach with using content analysis on the previously published article and desk research from the website. From desk research performed in this study, the framework and implication of technology to air transport and tourism industry is presented. It is proposed that a technology stalemate in air transport is pertinent to help the sustainability of the air transport and tourism business. The framework developed in this study could be used by the practitioners, policymakers and scholars to further develop the area and investigate key challenges on it. Continuous research and development of technology in air transport and tourism is very much needed to ensure the safety of the tourist.
