ABSTRACT

The transport sector in Bangladesh faces the challenge of providing equitable services and opportunities in an extremely densely populated country and an environment prone to weaker transportation networks. The government of Bangladesh aims to achieve fast expansion of the road network, thus providing considerable benefits to population lacking accessibility. Transportation is an integral part of the tourism industry, which characteristically is in need of transports to help tourists move from one place to another, because the basic aim of tourism is to reach the destination. In the tourism industry, we find different modes of transports like air, rail, road and water. However, this created a tradeoff with other modes of transport, safety of transport users and the environment. The aim of this review paper is to analyse the transportation system of Bangladesh in a tourism facility context. Results show that tourist opinion is the most important part of this study because it allows one to explore the current situation and to discover operators’ thoughts on the opportunities for better transit performance. Facing these challenges requires us to reexamine priorities and to develop a strategy which allows for a sustainable contribution of the transport sector to the national development objectives and thus to support the tourism industry.
