ABSTRACT

Public Works is a London-based art and architecture practice whose members include Andy Belfield, Hester Buck, Matt Brown, Tom Dobson, Torange Khonsari, Andreas Lang, Rhianon Morgan Hatch and Carlotta Novella. All of their projects use playful tactics to involve local users, residents and passers-by in the development of strategies for supporting social, cultural and other initiatives in both urban and rural contexts. This text is a record of a conversation between Public Works’ members and artist/architectural researcher Angharad Davies, reflecting on the practice’s collaborative and non-hierarchical way of working, which challenges both the typical organisation of the architectural office and the architect’s role in the design process.
